Brittany Mahomes was unfollowed by Travis Kelce’s ex-girlfriend Kayla Nicole after she was seen out with Taylor Swift.

Now, Kayla, 31, went on to talk about why she stopped following Patrick, his younger brother Jackson, and his wife Brittany Mahomes on Instagram while her ex-boyfriend Taylor, 33, was dating someone else.

“I do think it’s important to publicly address this because I did publicly unfollow people. The reality is I know these people in real life. And so, in real life, I’ve communicated to these people why I’ve had to publicly make the decisions that I made,” Kayla told PEOPLE in an interview.

Nicole said that she is still “ongoing relationships” with Patrick and his wife, even though she and the 34-year-old two-time Super Bowl winner broke up a year ago.

She told the magazine that she and Brittany “have had our conversations” and that “She knows that I love her.” The fitness influencer has 82.1k followers on her health and wellness account.

“There is a lot of history and friendship there, and that won’t change overnight,” she said. “But because things are happening so quickly and in public, I need to protect myself. That’s all there is to it.”

“The love is still there,” she said very clearly.

The former sports reporter on radio said she loves her city and its people “so much,” but she has to move on, and everyone needs to see that.

It was her way of saying that people should stop putting her “into things that do not involve me.”

Nicole and Kelce were first linked in 2017. They broke up in the summer of 2020 and didn’t get back together for a few months.

The couple broke up in May 2022, before the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs became interested in the pop star.
