Midtown Association Kicks into High Gear to Present Enhanced Arts & Culture Programming for Sutter Health’s Midtown Second Saturday on 9/14!


Highlighted by special activities to celebrate the debut of the exciting and new “The Court at 18L” along with entertaining music, Latin dancing lessons, graffiti art in action, welding artistry demonstrations and more, the Midtown Association is proud to present another re-invigorated Second Saturday happening on September 14, 2024. With vibrant and enhanced monthly activations continuing through October, Sutter Health’s Midtown Second Saturday district-wide programming is presented by the Midtown Association, Five Star Bank, SKK Developments, Visit Sacramento, and the City of Sacramento. The monthly activations are designed to celebrate Midtown’s thriving arts and culture scene along with the individuals who bring it to life. Attendees can enjoy an all-day/evening celebration of local artists and artistry, entertaining music, dance and theatre performances, culinary arts, family-friendly park activities, and food and drink specials at popular Midtown bars and restaurants.

Expected to draw 15,000 visitors to Midtown each month, Midtown Second Saturday activations start early in the day at the Midtown Farmers Market and continue well into the evening hours. These activations are supported by valued activity sponsors that include Another Planet Entertainment, Blue Diamond Growers, CADA, Eleanor H16 Apartments & MG Properties, The Handle District, Heller Pacific and Fulcrum Properties, Stonebridge Properties & Teichert, and Thomas Roth. A diverse and eclectic variety of energized activities will span Midtown each Second Saturday with dedicated activations at Muir Park or Fremont Park (depending on the month), the Midtown Central and Midtown Sutter restaurant districts, along 16th Street from C through P Street, and at select multifamily residences including 19J, 1801L Apartments, 17 Central, 16 Powerhouse, St. Anton, The Mansion Apartments, and The Press at Midtown Quarters.

Midtown Second Saturday Programming for Saturday, September 14

  • All day/evening (timing and locations vary) – Galleries, studios and theatre activations may include special performances and receptions, “meet the artist” opportunities, and behind-the-scenes studio tours.
  • All day/evening – Midtown mural self-guided walk (a map is available here)
  • 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Midtown Farmers Market family-friendly yard games and putting green provided by Tipsy Putt at Market Square (20th & K), a fashion show in the Merchant Market produced by FIG Mobile Fashion at 10:30 a.m., and live music performed by SOCK from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Market Square
  • 12 to 4 p.m. – fun and free hands-on art activities for families and youth at Muir Park (1515 C Street) that include:
    • Latin dance lessons by Dance on the Edge-a 30-minute class starting at 12:30 p.m., 45-minute class starting at 1:30 p.m. and 1-hour class starting at 2:30 p.m. with 15-minute breaks in between
    • Art Market & Show with 12 up-and-coming local artists and creatives that include Chris Jonas, Gabriel Lopez, Crystiana Lopez, D Tale, DJ Spaceworld, Lady Junkra, Lisa Elias, Chez, Oaksramento
    • Community graffiti wall by local artist Gabriel Lopez
    • Leave No Trace art activity by Burners without Borders
    • Entertaining music by DJ Tiny Jose from 12 to 4 p.m.
    • Visitors will also be able to take Instagram-worthy photos in front of the 2024 Second Saturday poster
  • 2 to 8 p.m. – new this year, a curated Midtown Second Saturday Art Walk route is available with up to 12 local stops at galleries, studios, restaurants, bars, and multifamily properties and includes pop-up art experiences.
    • This month’s art walk includes new experiences including a mesmerizing welding demonstration by Gina Rossi at Rossi Sculptural Designs plus featured artist Taner Pasamehmetoglu will be on-site at The Press with a pop-up art gallery from 2 to 5 p.m.
    • Other participating locations and arts programming include:
      • Lavender Library where participants will learn about the history of zines, browse the library’s zine collection, and create their own zine to take home
      • Alaro with mixed media by Karen Medaris of Dahlia Valley Studio and live music by Alpina Basnet from 4 to 6 p.m. 
      • New “The Court at 18L” where visitors can see Sacramento’s newest and only public space for pick-up soccer, view the court’s mural by local artist Cheyenne Randall, learn about Street FC, and enjoy music from DJ NADZ from 3-5 p.m. An adult game will be organized from 3-4 p.m. and the court will be available for open play from 4-5 p.m.
      • 1801L with original art by resident artists on display from 4 to 7 p.m. including Aleksei Kuzmin and Sharon Heyward and live music from 4 to 6 p.m. by Viv
      • Self Designs Art Gallery with live musical performances by local vocalists & musicians who play string and woodwind instruments and discover two levels of artwork with 41 local artists, living succulent wire sculptures, and life-like graphite pencil drawings by artist and owner, Self
      • Director’s Mortgage with a pop-up gallery by Mars Perkins from 5 to 8 p.m.
      • b. sakato.garo with an exhibit from Jerald Silva
      • Viewpoint Photographic Art Center with exhibits from two local artists and light snacks
      • Burger Patch with a live chalk art demonstration from Dawn Pedersen from 4-8 p.m.
      • The Jacquelyn where visitors can view a stunning 24’ tall animation by Proxy AV

    • Plus, participants can add VIP perks including an opportunity to join in on an immersive experience by Sacramento-based creative collective Proxy AV in The Jacquelyn’s private Black Box space where they’ll be provided with white painters suits to participate in the art at The Jacquelyn, and food & drink tasting at three participating restaurants through a VIP Art Walk purchase for $50, available via this link.
  • 4 to 8 p.m. – additional lively Midtown Second Saturday experiences, complete with buskers and pop-up activities, are available throughout the district in the early evening. Specifically, attendees are encouraged to stroll along 28th Street from J to N Streets and enjoy art markets and live performances at 20th and K Streets as well as 24th and K Streets with call outs that include:
    • Block Party at 20th and K Streets produced by World’s Worst Expo
    • Block Party at 24th and K Streets produced by Kulture with live music by The E-Regulars and DJ Bobby Lopez
  • 10 p.m. and later – six pre-approved e-permit holders will host Midtown Second Saturday After Parties with enhanced art experiences such as live performances, comedy, and dance. Official After Party locations include Barwest, Der Biergarten, Faces Nightclub, Mango’s, The Cabin, and The Golden Bear.
  • All afternoon & evening (timing and locations vary) – food and drink specials and culinary art in action at Midtown bars and restaurants.
