Ohio wants to showcase its creativity.
The America 250-Ohio Commission — which is highlighting Ohio’s contributions to the nation as the United States approaches is 250th anniversary next year — is unveiling a new driving trail today, promoting more than 100 sites across the state that celebrate ingenuity.
The Creativity Trail encourages people to experience Ohio’s past and present writers, musicians, artists and other innovators.
Northeast Ohio has many locations on the list, with sites in Canton, Cleveland and Akron featured, including the Canton Museum of Art.
The Creativity Trail is the second of six experiential trails planned as part of the “Trails and Tales” program. The other one that has been announced is the Ohio Air & Space Trail, which celebrates the state’s contributes to space exploration and the aerospace industry.

The Creativity Trail will be officially unveiled this morning during a ceremony at the Toledo Museum of Art that will feature live music and glass blowing demonstrations. Trail sites focus six categories: books, music, visual arts, pottery and glass, folk and traditional art, and carousels.
Canton Musem of Art curator: ‘We’re a hidden gem’
The Canton Museum of Art is the only site in Stark County.
Christy Davis, the museum’s curator of exhibitions, said she’s glad the museum made the list.
“Ohio has a wealth of amazing creative organizations and creativity,” she said. “I’m excited to see the Creativity Trail evolve, and I’m proud that the Canton Museum of Art is included in that.”
Davis said the trail will highlight art sites in many creative disciplines, but the museum stands out for its focus on a select few.
“One of our collecting focuses is ceramics because of its deeply rooted history in Ohio,” she said. “Our museum, being that we’re an American art museum, really hits on … pottery and ceramics and the visual arts in general.”
Davis said the museum has a lot to offer, and she hopes the Creativity Trail brings it more attention.
“We have unique exhibits every season,” she said. “We’re a hidden gem.”
What other sites made Ohio’s Creativity Trail?
Northeast Ohio made the list multiple times, as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Akron Zoo, the Cleveland History Center and the Akron Art Museum are all featured, as well as many others.
