LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – Indiana State Police are investigating after one person died in an overnight crash on the Indiana Toll Road.
The crash happened just before 10 p.m. Sunday near the 108-mile marker in LaGrange County. Investigators believe a Nissan passenger car was going very slow in the westbound lanes when a semi heading in the same direction rear ended it.
The impact pushed the Nissan across the grass median into the left shoulder of the eastbound lanes where it caught fire. Other drivers and rescue personnel had a difficult time approaching the car because of the flames.
The driver of the Nissan, who police say was the only person inside the car, was unable to escape and died at the scene.
The semi driver, a 44-year-old Pennsylvania man, is cooperating with investigators.
