
VILLAGE OF CLEAR LAKE, Wis. (WEAU) – One person is dead and others are hurt following a car versus semi crash in Polk County.
According to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 4:55 p.m., authorities received a report of a car versus semi crash at the intersection of State Highway 63 and 60th Avenue, North of the Village of Clear Lake.
The press release says a car with three occupants was traveling westbound on 60th Avenue and didn’t stop for a stop sign. The car travelled into the path of a semi traveling northbound on Highway 63. The semi containing diesel fuel and gasoline overturned.
According to the press release, the driver of the car was flown from the scene by ambulance and later died at the hospital due to injuries they suffered from the crash. Another passenger was flown from the scene and is listed in critical condition. The third person from the car was taken to a hospital and is listed in stable condition. The driver of the semi was not reported to be seriously hurt.
Crews contained the leak from the semi.
The crash is under investigation.
