1983 Murder Suspect Kills Himself Following Interview With Detective

On Wednesday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that an Oregon man killed himself last month after being examined by police in connection with a 1983 homicide.

70-year-old Randal “Randy” McEvers was found dead on February 8. Detectives were looking into McEvers as a possible suspect in the demise of his wife, Nancy. Later that year, investigators established that the shooting was not a suicide but abandoned the homicide investigation in August due to a lack of new leads. The investigation went cold until last year when detectives reexamined the evidence and interviewed twenty individuals. The Oregonian claimed that McEvers had become a suspect and that deputies were turning him over to prosecutors at the time he committed suicide.
