2 in stolen car caught on camera at dealership, arrested
Two men were arrested and charged after the owner of Victory Motors car dealership saw one of them there with a flashlight on a remote camera at his house and called police.
Officers went to the car dealership at 517 N. Main Street and said they found the first man – Nicholas Long, 39, of Commerce Township – hiding behind the building.
The second suspect, Kyle Renko, 27, of Trenton was arrested in a stolen Hyundai Elantra parked nearby.
The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Royal Oak police Lt. Richard Millard said police believe the men were at the dealership to either steal a car or take items from vehicles parked there.
Both suspects were arraigned Thursday in Royal Oak 44th District Court.
Millard said Long has an extensive criminal history involving larceny and auto theft.
Long is jailed on $50,000 cash bond on charges of possession of amphetamines, a 10-year felony, and receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle, a five-year felony.
Renko is also charged with receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle. He is jailed on $20,000 cash bond. County jail records show he is also being held on a $30,000, 10 percent bond, for operating under the influence of drugs in Brownstown Township.
Burglar steals woman’s $5,000 bike and cash
A Royal Oak woman returned home Nov. 5 to find someone had burglarized her house in the 2100 block of East Fourth Street.
She called police around 6:30 p.m.
“When she got home from work she found things out of place and damage to her side door,” said Royal Oak Police Lt. Richard Millard.
She told police there was $400 in cash missing from a counter, along with her $5,000 Bianchi Volpe bicycle, which she kept in the house.
Police said they found a suspicious person on a nearby doorbell camera of a person in the area who was pulling on car door handles to see if they were locked.
Thief drives off with Royal Oak man’s SUV as owner tries to confront him
A Royal Oak man noticed an unknown man inside his 2009 Chevrolet Blazer parked in the owner’s driveway and went to confront him about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
But the suspect drove off in the Blazer before the owner could reach him, police said.
The theft happened in the 600 block of South Edgeworth Avenue.
Police suspect the theft is connected to the attempted theft of a 2006 Chevy Blazer the same night in the 800 block of East Second Street.
The owner noticed the vehicle was damaged the next morning. Police said someone smashed out a rear passenger window and damaged the steering column.
Car theft connected with car burglary, police say
Police say the theft of a 2019 Jeep Cherokee is probably connected to the theft of change from a second vehicle in the same block on Nov. 5.
The Jeep owner called police about 5 a.m. when he noticed his SUV missing from where it was parked on the street in front of his house in the 4300 block of Mankato Avenue.
Eight minutes earlier the owner of the second vehicle reported the theft of change from his car while it was parked in his driveway.
Ex-wife suspected of vandalizing ex-husband’s car
Things went bad when a woman went to exchange some property with her ex-husband at his apartment in the 4300 block of Judson Avenue about 2:40 a.m. Nov. 5.
The apartment is in the area of 13 Mile and Greenfield roads.
Police said the man looked outside and saw his wife beating his car with what appeared to be a longish club.
The woman shattered the rear window and dented the roof of the car and fled, police said.
