2023 CUNYAC/HSS Women’s Tennis Championship Field Set

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2023) –

The tournament bracket is now set for the 2023 CUNYAC/HSS Women’s Tennis Championship. Four programs with championship ambition will compete for the title on Thursday, Oct. 26 at the iconic USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing.
 
Baruch is the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament after securing its sixth regular season title in school history and second in the last three seasons. The Bearcats are 10-0 and wrap up its regular season at Stockton on Oct. 22. Baruch is led by two-time CUNYAC Player of the Year Ava Deguzman, who owns the program record in singles victories.
 
Hunter, the defending conference champions, are the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The Hawks went 5-5 in the regular season with a 4-1 conference record. Three Hawks own four singles victories this season, including Julia Aksamentoca, Anna Chapko, Sree Kolla and Grace Portuese.
 
John Jay is the No. 3 seed in the bracket, finishing 6-5 in the regular season and 3-2 against league opposition. Sarina Moi owns a team-best seven singles wins, while Antigone Alexander and Dakota Himaya have six singles victories apiece.
 
Lehman rounds out the bracket at No. 4 and is led by Viola Avdyli, who boasts a 7-3 record at top-flights this season.
 
Baruch will take on Lehman in the semifinal round of the championship. The Bearcats turned in a 9-0 victory in the regular season meeting.
 
Hunter and John Jay will square in what will be a rematch of the regular season finale for both squads. The Hawks were victorious in the matchup with a 5-2 win.

#2 Hunter vs. #3 John Jay
 
Thursday, Oct. 27 – Final (at USTA National Tennis Center)
