INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. WHAT ARE THEY TELLING US? THAT MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE FLYING EACH YEAR FOR THE HOLIDAYS SINCE THE PANDEMIC? THIS IS SOME OF THE HOLIDAY RUSH AT THE TSA CHECKPOINT. NOW, NOW THE AIRPORT AUTHORITY SAYS ABOUT. 35,000 PEOPLE WILL COME TO THE AIRPORT TODAY, AND THAT’S AN INCREASE OF 12% OVER LAST YEAR. NOW, MOST OF THE PEOPLE WE TALKED WITH SAY THAT THEY ARE TRAVELING FOR THANKSGIVING. THE INCREASED NUMBERS MEANS A LONGER WAIT AT THE AIRPORT. CONSTRUCTION FOR THE NEW TERMINAL CAN ALSO SLOW DOWN TRAFFIC WHILE COMING INTO THE TERMINAL AS WELL. AND ALL OF THAT MEANS GETTING TO THE AIRPORT OUT EARLIER THAN NORMAL. THAT’S ESPECIALLY THE CASE FOR TOMORROW. THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING, AND ALSO ON THE MONDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING. THERE’S A LITTLE BIT OF CONSTRUCTION ON THE ROADWAYS AS YOU’RE COMING IN, MAKE SURE YOU SLOW DOWN, LEAVE YOURSELF A LITTLE BIT OF EXTRA TIME AS YOU’RE NAVIGATING AND THEN WHEN YOU ONCE YOU GET INTO THE LANDSIDE TERMINAL, EVERYTHING SHOULD BE AS IT WAS. Tuesday kicked off what is traditionally called the busiest travel week of the year, with an estimated 35,000 people flying out of Pittsburgh International Airport, according to the Allegheny County Airport Authority.By Monday, 230,000 people are expected to go through the airport, an increase of 12% over last year.AAA says there is a 2.3% increase in people driving to their Thanksgiving destinations, and they’re seeing gas prices drop 30 cents per gallon compared to last year.During the next several days, AAA says the busiest times on the roads will be between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.Travelers who are flying are advised to arrive at the airport two hours prior to flight departures because of the longer lines.
