2024 Peach Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Season Preview


AUGUSTA, GA — The Peach Belt Conference has released the 2024 men’s tennis season preview, consisting of the preseason coaches poll and preseason All-Conference team. All voting and ranking was done by the league’s head coaches.

Flagler was the unanimous choice atop the coaches poll, capturing a maximum 25 points to edge out Columbus State, who was second with 21. Lander was third in the voting with North Georgia in fourth.

The Saints finished second in the PBC standings in 2023 and advanced to the PBC Tournament championship match before making a run through the NCAA Tournament to the national quarterfinals. Flagler returns three seniors and three juniors for the 2024 season and are ranked #4 in the nation in the ITA preseason national poll.

Columbus State is the defending PBC regular-season and tournament champions and played in the national championship match last season; their third appearance in the final in the last five years. CSU returns seniors Felix Steen and Justin Welz from last season.

Preseason All-Conference Team

Joaquin Benoit, North Georgia

  • A senior from Mar del Plata, Argentina
  • A first-team All-Conference selection in 2023 in both singles and doubles, he was 13-4 in singles play, all at the #1 spot
  • Finished the 2023 season ranked #25 in the nation by ITA in singles and is currently #22
  • Went 15-2 at #1 doubles, the most wins at #1 doubles of any player in the PBC

Gabe Cizek, Georgia College & State University

  • A junior from Prague, Czech Republic
  • A first-team All-Conference selection in singles in 2023
  • Went 7-9 in singles play, all at the #1 spot, including a 3-3 mark against conference opponents
  • A PBC Presidential Honor Roll silver scholar, he was also named to the PBC Team of Academic Distinction

Jacopo Denitto, Flagler

  • A junior from Lecce, Italy
  • A second-team All-Conference selection in singles last season, he won the fall 2023 ITA Southeast Region singles title and advanced to the ITA Cup
  • Currently ranked #7 in the nation in the ITA fall rankings, he went 12-9 in dual match competition last spring, 11-9 at #2 singles
  • Was 10-8 in dual doubles play and named the PBC Player of the Week on March 14

Enzo Garutti, Augusta

  • A sophomore from Sao Jose do Rio Preto, Brazil
  • A PBC second-team All-Conference selection in singles, he was 9-14 in overall singles play with a 7-13 mark at #1 singles and 2-1 at #2
  • Defeated North Georgia’s Daniel Ostap in three sets to lead the Jaguars to the semifinals of the PBC Tournament; AU also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015
  • A PBC Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholar

Ambroise Marchard, Lander

  • A senior from Amiens, France
  • A PBC second-team All-Conference selection in singles in 2023, he went 7-5 in dual match singles play, all at #2
  • Was 12-2 overall in doubles play, including an 11-1 mark at #3 doubles
  • A PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar, he was named to the PBC Team of Academic Distinction and a D2ADA Academic Achievement Award recipient

Hugo Regner, Lander

  • A senior from Smalandsstenar, Sweden
  • A first-team All-Conference selection in singles and doubles in 2023, he is ranked #19 in the nation in singles to begin the 2024 spring season
  • Went 15-1 at #1 singles last season with a 4-1 mark in conference play and 2-0 against nationally-ranked opponents
  • Was 11-6 overall in doubles play and was the runner-up in doubles at the 2023 fall ITA Southeast Region championships
