After the electric Kona, Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, Hyundai is enhancing its electric vehicle range by adding a three-row midsize SUV: the Ioniq 9. Inspired by the Seven concept vehicle, the 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 features a bold, futuristic silhouette. It can accommodate up to seven occupants. Consumers can choose between a six- or seven-seat configuration (2+3+2 or 2+2+2). The floor is flat from the first to the third row of seats.
Note that this new 100% electric SUV has swivel seats in the second row, allowing passengers in the middle row to face backwards. Hyundai could not confirm that this feature would be offered on the Canadian market.
The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 also features the Universal Island 2.0 sliding console for easy access by first- and second-row occupants.
Hyundai’s new electric SUV boasts a wheelbase of 3130 mm, the longest in the Hyundai range. With the third row in place, the cargo volume is 620 L. This increases to 1323 L when the third row is folded. There’s also a small space under the hood at the front. The volume is 88 L for a RWD single-motor version and 52 L for a dual-motor AWD version.
Up to 539 kilometres of range
Like all new electric models from Genesis, Kia and Hyundai, the Ioniq 9 2026 is built on the E-GMP platform. The 110.3 kWh battery provides a range of up to 539 kilometres on a single charge, according to EPA estimates for the extended-range version equipped with 19-inch wheels.
The 2026 Ioniq 9 is powered by a 160 kW (215 hp) rear electric motor. The standard-range AWD ads a 70 kW (94 hp) front electric motor. As for the Performance version, the front electric motor is rated at 160 kW, enabling it to reach 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.
Using a 350-kW terminal, the Ioniq 9 can increase its range from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes. The towing capacity is set at 5,000 lbs.
