20th edition – e-flux Agenda

This year marks a significant milestone for SP–Arte as it celebrates its 20th anniversary, coinciding with a pivotal moment for Brazil’s art renaissance and the groundbreaking inauguration of the Venice Biennale curated by the distinguished curator of MASP (Art Museum of São Paulo), Adriano Pedrosa.

In 2024, Latin America’s premier art fair reaps the rewards of its long standing strategic endeavors, commemorating the robust growth of the Brazilian art market. It mirrors the expansive journey of the fair itself—a potent catalyst for business, propelling galleries, artists within and outside Brazil, curators, researchers, and the entire artistic ecosystem. The growth of the design sector, the participation of independent studios, and the enhanced app reflects the fair’s constant adaptability and commitment to enhancing the visitor experience.

SP–Arte continues to be a driving force in shaping Brazil’s artistic market and contributing to the country’s influence on the international stage. The diverse array of works, from both established and emerging artists showcased at the fair further solidifies its position as a key reference in the global art world. Brazil’s cultural landscape is experiencing a transformative shift, and SP–Arte stands at the forefront, shaping and revitalizing the country’s artistic market.

Scheduled to unfold from April 3–7 at the iconic Bienal Pavilion, designed by Oscar Niemeyer, this year’s edition promises a more comprehensive space for design, a thriving sector, and a section spotlighting independent studios. The revamped app, an indispensable tool since its 2023 launch, promises an immersive experience for all attendees, while the roaring success of Casa SP–Arte in 2023, with over 5,000 visitors, fuels anticipation. This year, it will not only host talks before the fair but also feature a captivating showcase of international artists in April.

The fair’s art lineup boasts renowned Brazilian galleries such as Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, Luisa Strina, Mendes Wood DM, Millan, A Gentil Carioca, Nara Roesler, along with a new generation of galleries including Gomide&Co, Galatea, MaPa, Mitre, HOA, Verve, Central, and Superfície. It also includes heavyweight international galleries like Continua (Italy), Herlitzka & Co (Argentina), Sur, Galería de Las Misiones, and Piero Atchugarry (Uruguay), as well as RGR (Mexico). In design, highlights include spaces like Etel, Estúdio Rain, Wentz, and ,Ovo.

SP–Arte serves as a cultural hub, promoting the appreciation of visual arts and contributing to the reputation of São Paulo as a vibrant center for culture, arts and creativity. The fair attracts global attention to the city, establishing São Paulo as a significant player in the global art community. For those unable to be present in São Paulo, staying connected is effortless through social media channels, exclusive newsletters, or the revamped app, available on both iOS and Android platforms.

Cheers to SP–Arte’s vibrant legacy and the kaleidoscopic brilliance it brings to the global stage!
