3 Killed by Gunman in Orlando, Including a 9-Year-Old Child and a Reporter

On Wednesday, a shooter went on a spree in Orlando, Florida, killing at least three people.

19-year-old Keith Melvin has been charged with the homicide of a 38-year-old lady. Melvin was picked up by a cousin who observed him walking down the street and allegedly shot and killed Nathacha Augustin, who was a passenger in the front seat, without any prior warning.

He is accused of returning to the site later and opening fire on an unmarked television news truck, killing reporter Dylan Lyons of Spectrum News 13. Jesse Walden, a photojournalist, was a second victim who was injured.

“Lyons took his position quite seriously. He adored his profession. He liked his work, “Josh Miller, a reporter for Spectrum Sports 360, told the Associated Press. “He was enthusiastic about the community, sharing people’s stories, and reporting the news, and he enjoyed what he did.”

Melvin is then said to have entered a neighboring residence and fatally shot 9-year-old T’yonna Major while wounded her mother. It was unclear whether a relationship had been developed in that occurrence.

He is likely to face a multitude of further counts.

Police have yet to determine a motive for the shootings. However, Orange County Sheriff John Mina has stated that they were random actions.

Melvin complained of discomfort after his detention and was taken to a hospital, where he attacked the medical staff.
