CHICAGO — A 5-year-old girl was shot and killed inside a parked car early Sunday morning in the United Center neighborhood on the city’s Near West Side, Chicago police say.

According to police, a group of people were standing outside in the 200 block of North Campbell Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Sunday when shots were fired. The 5-year-old girl, who police say was in a parked vehicle, was shot in the upper left abdomen and transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Additionally, police say, a 24-year-old man who had been standing outside was shot twice in the upper left thigh and taken to an area hospital in good condition.

Police say nobody is in custody and no further injuries have been reported. Detectives are investigating the incident.
