6th annual Cultural Inclusion Council Fashion Show took over CMU

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – The Cultural Inclusion Council (CIC) hosted their 6th annual fashion show Saturday night.

The CIC mission is to promote “equity and inclusion on campus and in the surrounding community by hosting educational and promotional events, connecting students to support services and promoting open dialogue that allows individuals to better understand one another.” The Fashion show is just one of the events that they host to stick to this statement. This years theme for the Fashion Show was reflection, and you could see these reflective elements throughout the show with some of the models outfits.

Lupita Santiago, one of the Latino Student Alliance coordinators, expresses the importance of the show:

“Today we are doing a bunch of different dances showing special Latino traditions… It’s really important, being here in a school that’s predominately white, I feel like it’s good for us to have representation. So, I feel like this showcases all of the alliances. community-wide we have a lot of people from the community that are coming and we get to show our culture, show our traditions- a thing that we don’t really get to do much around here.”

The CIC includes seven different cultural alliances that they house, these include:

The Asian Student Association (ASA)

The Black Student Alliance (BSA)

The Genders and Sexualities Alliance (GSA)

The Ho’olokahi Polynesian Alliance (HPA)

International Student Association (ISA)

The Latino Student Alliance (LSA)

The Native American Student Association (NASA)
