There was a time when admitting to having any kind of plastic surgery was taboo in Hollywood. But with procedures like Botox becoming widely accepted, the stigma around the topic has shifted, and more stars are opening up about having work done. From A-listers to reality stars, here are some celebrities who have been outspoken about getting cosmetic surgery.
Cardi B
The “WAP” rapper has come a long way since getting $800 illegal butt injections while working as a stripper in NYC. Since then, Cardi B has admitted to having more work done, including a rhinoplasty, a second breast augmentation, and liposuction after having her two children. In 2022, she revealed on Instagram Live she “removed 95%” of her butt implants, and that the surgery was a “crazy process.” Like everything she does, the rapper is unapologetic about her cosmetic surgeries. “People will be assuming that when you do surgery or something, you’re insecure about yourself or you hate yourself. And that’s just not the truth,” the rapper told REVOLT’s Jason Lee in an interview. “I just be feeling like if I wanna correct something, I wanna do a little something something, like I don’t give f—, I’m gonna do it. Like, I just like, I like being perfect. I like a certain type of body for myself. And if I wanna do it, I do it.”
Simon Cowell
As one of the most recognizable names in TV entertainment, Simon Cowell has been in the public eye for decades, and fans have scrutinized his changing looks over the years. The TV personality is one of the only male celebrities to openly talk about getting filler, Botox injections and cosmetic surgery. In 2018 he told the Sun that he got a £2,000 facelift from the “Picasso of dermatology” where bioplastic-infused thread was sewn into his face and neck and then pulled back to tighten his skin. He’s admitted to being a little needle-happy in the past. “There was a stage where I might have gone a bit too far,” he told The Sun in 2022. “I saw a picture of me from ‘before’ the other day, and didn’t recognize it as me first of all.” Now he says there’s zero filler in his face, and he’s opting for alternative solutions, like, a vegan diet, working out, vitamin injections, and facials, including an “out there” sheep placenta facial. “There’s lots of things you can do now,” he said. “You don’t just have to stuff your face with filler and Botox.”
Courteney Cox
Courteney Cox has a cautionary tale about plastic surgery. The Friends alum has gotten candid about overdoing it with facial fillers in the past. “And I didn’t realize that, oh sh–, I’m actually looking really strange with injections and doing stuff to my face that I would never do now,” Cox told The Sunday Times. The actress turned a corner after fans started commenting on her unnatural appearance. ”I’ve had all my fillers dissolved. I’m as natural as I can be,” Cox said in a 2017 interview with New Beauty. “I feel better because I look like myself. I think that I now look more like the person that I was. I hope I do. Things are going to change. Everything’s going to drop. I was trying to make it not drop, but that made me look fake.” She went on to say, “I’ve had to learn to embrace movement and realize that fillers are not my friend.”
Kris Jenner
The head of the Kardashian-Jenner empire demonstrated the ultimate transparency by documenting her lower facelift surgery on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians in 2011, and later, an earlobe reduction in 2018. “I learned that your nose and your ears keep growing your whole life,” she said in the episode. “I think that the decision to do something about my ever-changing ears is suddenly a priority.” The Momager is also a fan of injections, even partnering with Botox Cosmetics in a holiday campaign. “It’s a one stop shop for me,” Jenner said to PEOPLE. “And who doesn’t love Botox? For me it’s been really great. If you’re responsible, and you talk to your doctor, I think it works. It’s something that I’ve been using for a long time.”
Sharon Osbourne
The reality TV star is a longtime supporter of cosmetic surgery, and she doesn’t try to hide the fact she’s had extensive work done. Osbourne detailed all the procedures she’s had in her 2013 autobiography, Unbreakable. “There’s not much I haven’t had tweaked, stretched, peeled, lasered, veneered, enhanced or removed altogether,” she wrote. The long list includes a gastric band weight loss operation, facelifts, tummy tucks, eyelift, Botox and a preventative double mastectomy in 2012. The former X Factor judge has been open about some surgeries that went wrong as well, including a “horrendous” facelift that left her looking like “Quasimodo” and another that froze her mouth in a permanent “snarl.” The botched procedures have turned Osbourne off from facelifts, but she’s still a promoter of plastic surgery. “It’s your personal choice. There should be no stigma to it,” she said on The Osbournes Podcast. If I want to go and have [my] chin done or whatever it is, it’s my choice. And I don’t hide the fact. And I’ll give people the truth about it.”
Dolly Parton
One look at Dolly Parton’s extreme hourglass figure and all doubts are resolved on whether or not the country music icon has gone under the knife. But she has no problem with people asking about her breasts. “How can people not? They’re all you can see!” she said in an interview with The Guardian. And when asked in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning if her assets were real, she was quick to quip, “They’re real expensive. They’re real big.” The “Jolene” singer openly admits to enhancing her looks with plastic surgery. “If something is bagging, sagging or dragging, I’ll tuck it, suck it or pluck it,” she said in 2011. “It’s like what I always say: I may look fake but I’m real where it counts.”
Chrissy Teigen
Model and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen has been candid about disclosing her extensive plastic surgeries, from having her “armpits sucked out” to her breast implants and later removal. The Cravings author told Allure in 2017 that “everything else (on my face) is fake, but my cheeks are real.” Later in 2021, the model shared via her Instagram story that she had buccal fat removal done to define the hollow of her cheeks. Teigen has also been quick to call out trolls who accuse her of getting a “new face” with too much filler, clapping back with a screenshot saying she just “gained weight.”
