RIGHT NOW TONS OF HEARTLAND NEIGHBORS ARE BEING FORCED TO MAKE UNTHINKABLE DECISIONS SUCH AS PURCHASING FOOD OR GETTING OTHER NECESSITIES, SUCH AS MEDICATION FOR THEIR FAMILY. YOU HEAR ISSUES LIKE THIS AND YOU THINK IT DOESN’T AFFECT OUR AREA OR COMMUNITY, BUT IT DOES. I BELIEVE 1 IN 11 INDIVIDUALS ARE BATTLING HUNGER IN OUR REGION. JUST TALK ABOUT THAT AND HOW CRUCIAL THIS NEED IS FOR THOSE PEOPLE. YEAH, INFLATION HAS CRIPPLED FAMILIES ACROSS THE HEARTLAND. 1 IN 11, AS YOU SAID, ARE FACING HUNGER. 1 IN 9 ARE CHILDREN. SO THAT’S WHY THIS STUFF, THE TRUCK EVENT IS SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE EVERY POUND OF FOOD COLLECTED WILL GO DIRECTLY BACK INTO THE 93 COMMUNITIES WE SERVE, ALLOWING THEM TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE FOOD THAT THEY NEED TO THRIVE. ‘Stuff the Truck’ will help distribute nearly 540,000 meals across the region
The nonprofit Food Bank for the Heartland received a check Saturday morning that will allow the organization to distribute 537,000 meals across Nebraska and Western Iowa.Walmart presented a check for $179,100 that will go to serving one in 11 people facing hunger across 93 counties.”The more food we can get out into the community and the more food our partners can handle the better we’ll be able to serve,” Brian Barks, the President of Food Bank for the Heartland said.The money came from Walmart as part of a grant. The Food Bank plans to use the money to hire staff to help distribute the large quantity of meals they give out while also breaking it up into smaller grants for its partners.Barks said the Food Bank has partners that need to buy items such as freezers and coolers to be able to properly store food and serve communities better.”Stuff the Truck” asks for donations of non-perishable items such as cereal, canned fruits, vegetables, pasta and canned protein.The truck is located at Walmart on 180th and Center at 18201 Wright Street.Learn more about Food Bank for the Heartland by following this link.
