Kate McKinnon Returns to Her ‘Old Job’ Alongside Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph

Kate McKinnon appeared on Saturday Night Live from 2012 to 2022.

Saturday Night Live included several past sketch comedy cast members in the final episode of 2023.

Kate McKinnon, who departed the show last year, returned as host, while fellow alumnae Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph made cameos throughout her monologue.

McKinnon began her performance on the Studio 8H stage by reflecting on how unusual it was for her to return to her “old job” and perform the monologue: “I don’t really like to talk in my own voice. That’s kind of why I got into this racket in the first place.”

The comedian went on to claim that she left Saturday Night Live because “my skin was reacting poorly to the prosthetics” after ten years of performing multiple personalities.

“I’ve never been myself in a monologue before,” she added, noting that in past speeches with other presenters, she usually plays “the role of freak next to hot person.”

McKinnon also spoke about her “big year,” which featured a role in Greta Gerwig’s summer smash Barbie as “weird Barbie.”

“I walked in on the first day, and they were like, ‘Oh my God, you look perfect,’ and I was like, ‘These are my clothes,’” she said with a laugh.

From 2000 to 2007, Wiig, Rudolph, and McKinnon were all cast members of Saturday Night Live. Wiig was a regular on the show from 2005 to 2012.
