For those who seek an alternative to the New Year’s Eve telecast airing on ABC, Nexstar Media Group may have a program that suits your fancy — if you happen to live in six mid-America states or 15 West Coast markets including Las Vegas, Nevada.
For the first time Nexstar Media Group will host “Las Vegas Countdown to 2024,” airing from just before 9pm Pacific on December 31 through 12:35am on January 1 on CBS affiliate KLAS-8.
Michael Yo, familiar to both SiriusXM listeners and to those who tuned to WHYI “Y-100” in Miami some 25 years ago, is a co-host. Today, Yo resides in Las Vegas and is a comedian. Serving as his co-host is Nikki Novak, an actress and “red carpet host” for E! Networks.
Entertainment includes ’90s era boy band 98 Degrees, live from Ghostbar inside the Palms Casino Resort; popular ’80s pop/rock act Berlin; iconic brass and romance act Chicago; Australian duo Air Supply, beloved among Cuban Americans in Miami; and the last remaining member of The Monkees, Mickey Dolenz.
For viewers, coverage starts with the Times Square, New York, ball drop ushering in Midnight on the East Coast. However, stations carrying this broadcast are comprised of KLAS-8 and 14 other Nexstar stations on the West Coast and Hawaii, including KTLA-5 in Los Angeles, KRON-4 in San Francisco, KTXL-40 in Sacramento, and KGET-17 in Bakersfield.
A countdown across the four time zones in the continental U.S. will be shown, as will fireworks from Las Vegas, Denver and Dallas.
Speaking of Dallas, in this market — and 23 others across Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri and Louisiana — Nexstar is teaming up with NBCUniversal’s KXAS-5 to present “Lone Star NYE: Countdown To 2024.”
This broadcast will air between 11:35pm Central and 12:35pm Central on New Year’s Eve, and is hosted by Katy Blakey of KXAS-5 and D.J. Williams of KARK-TV in Little Rock from the lawn due south of Dallas’ Reunion Tower. Sponsors include Hunt Realty Investments, and Arca Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages.
“Lone Star NYE: Countdown To 2024” will air on the following stations:
