The United States accused Iran of “making things up” when it claimed that the two nations had agreed to the details of a prisoner swap. A White House official told Reuters that they are committed to liberating Americans imprisoned in Iran but said Amirabdollahian’s claims were untrue. Last week, some Iranian media stated that the U.S. had negotiated a deal to release $7 billion in frozen Iranian oil funds in exchange for prisoners. Yet, negotiations have been frozen since September, and if the most recent statements from the United States are any indicator, they will only thaw for a while.
