‘Uncle Samsik’ Will Be Song Kang-Ho’s First Series Appearance on Disney+

Uncle Samsik, an ambitious period drama created by Korean writer-director Shin Yeon-shick, will star Parasite’s Song Kang-ho.

Uncle Samsik is the story of a young idealist guy wanting to change the future of his country in the midst of enormous social and political turbulence in 1960s Korea. The man attracts the attention of a dubious fixer, who can adapt to any situation and will go to any length to help him achieve his boss’s goals.

Song will play the idealistic Kim San, with Pak Doochill/Uncle Samsik and Byun Yohan (Mr Sunshine, Six Flying Dragons) as fixers.

The drama series, which Shin created and directed, is notable for being both Song’s first appearance in a drama series and the filmmaker’s first foray into television.

They worked together to create Shin’s black comedy Cobweb and the volleyball drama One Win, both of which were released in 2023.

Song has appeared in films such as Park Chan-wook’s Thirst, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, and Joint Security Area, as well as Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer, The Host, and Memories of Murder.

The 16-episode drama is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2024.
