Formula E, WBD extend Europe broadcast deal

Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) and the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship have announced an extended partnership that will scale coverage of every race of the electric racing series across 50 markets in Europe.

The multi-year agreement will extend WBD’s relationship with Formula E beyond 12 years since Eurosport first broadcast race coverage from the 2015 season.

As the pan-European home of Formula E, WBD will harness the full scale of its television channels (Eurosport 1 and 2), streaming platforms (Max, discovery+, the Eurosport App and Eurosport Extra), digital sites (Eurosport.com) and its free-to-air networks to provide live and on-demand coverage of every lap in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

WBD will be the exclusive broadcaster of Formula E in eight markets including the UK, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Spain and Turkey, while also providing live race coverage in Italy for the first time since 2020.

Trojan Paillot, SVP Sports Rights Acquisitions and Syndications at Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe, said: “We are proud to house one of the most comprehensive multi-market motorsport portfolios anywhere, which delivers year-round action to millions of fans across Europe. We’re delighted that we can further extend our partnership with Formula E to continue leveraging our world-class production expertise and passionate motorsport storytelling ability to scale coverage to the widest possible audience.”

David Coulthard, Formula E presenter and former Formula 1 driver, commented: “As someone who is all about entertainment, Formula E absolutely delivers. It’s going into its 10th season with a world-class driver line-up including multiple champions from across the various championships. It’s a mature racing product that’s got great respect in the motorsport community and is capable of truly captivating fans. I’m looking forward to seeing the community grow.”

Aarti Dabas, Chief Media Officer at Formula E, added: “Eurosport has been a key player in growing our European fanbase since 2015 which helped achieve record live audiences for Formula E racing last season. We are delighted to extend this major media partnership with WBD and will work together to continue building the Formula E fanbase across Europe.”

WBD’s latest multi-market partnership to show every race on the Formula E calendar across Europe follows its announcement in December 2023 that revealed TNT Sports as the exclusive home of Formula E in the UK and Ireland
