Light to Night Singapore to return for 2024 edition this January and February

Singapore’s Civic District will once again come to life with art installations, programmes, light projections, and live entertainment at the upcoming eighth edition of  Light to Night Singapore.

Part of Singapore Art Week 2024, the festival, organised by the National Gallery Singapore, will run from 19 January to 8 February.

Themed “Reimagine”, the event will encourage guests to think of art and play from new perspectives as they engage with works from Singaporean and Southeast Asian artists.

As part of Light to Night Singapore 2024, festival-goers will be able to immerse themselves in interactive experiences and artworks at locations such as the National Gallery Singapore, The Arts House, and the Asian Civilisations Museum. These include a multi-directional table tennis game from Cultural Medallion recipient Lee Wen, an 8-bit word cloud, and a multi-room installation filled with autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) sounds.

Another highlight of this year’s festival will be works that were produced by Southeast Asian creatives who experimented with new ways of artistic expression. Featured contributions include a six-metre inflatable installation by Kumari Nahappan, light projection displays by Cultural Medallion recipient Teo Eng Seng, visual and performance artist Arahmaiani, and risograph printing and publishing studio Knuckles & Notch.

Additionally, there will be “multi-dimensional art encounters” with floating sculptures, a fresh, sci-fi-inspired interpretation of a Chinese opera stage, and an augmented reality display featuring living toys at Funan, the Padang, Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall, and more.

Festival-goers can also expect to feast on a variety of F&B offerings at the Art x Social Festival Street, which will be making its return this year, participate in a new spin on the popular tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, and create their art and check out a Vendor Market at a community space.

“Showcasing a diverse lineup of artists from Singapore and Southeast Asia, Light to Night Singapore 2024 encourages festival-goers to engage in introspection while reimagining art and everyday spaces through artworks and programmes that are immersive and interactive for all to enjoy. Embracing the theme “Reimagine”, the festival aims to foster a new appreciation and love for the visual arts, where each encounter with art becomes an opportunity to rediscover and reimagine the world around us,” Festival Executive Director and Senior Director of Museum Planning and Audience Engagement at National Gallery Singapore, Suenne Megan Tan, said

Light to Night Singapore 2024 will feature both free and ticketed programmes and experiences. Pre-registration is encouraged for ticketed programmes and experiences. More information is available here.
