Universal Television adapts Australian comedy series Laid for Peacock in US


US streamer Peacock has handed a straight-to-series order to Laid, a comedy series based on the Australian show of the same name.

The adaptation is written and executive produced by Nahnatchka Khan (Totally Killer, Young Rock, Fresh Off the Boat) and Sally Bradford McKenna (Son of Zorn) and comes from Universal Television.

US actress Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel) will play the lead character and serve as an executive produce.

Other exec producers on the project include John Davis and John Fox for Davis Entertainment, Jennifer Carreras for Fierce Baby, Marieke Hardy, Kirsty Fisher and Liz Watts for Porchlight Films and All3Media International.

The series follows a woman who discovers that her former lovers are dying in unusual ways and must go back through her sex timeline to confront her past so she can move forward. The original Australian version, created by Hardy and Fisher and produced by Watts, aired on ABC for two six-episode seasons in 2011 and 2012.
