Gadgets: Wireless keyboard, Bluetooth speaker

MK7500F QuietType Pro Silent Mechanical full wireless keyboard. (Kensington/TNS)

Kensington’s MK7500F QuietType Pro Silent Mechanical full wireless keyboard is as good as it gets. It’s designed for professional use at home or office, and is also great for anyone needing a full-sized keyboard. Typing is smooth and effortless.

One of the first things I noticed after the keyboard was paired with my desktop Mac was how quiet the keys were. It might not be a big deal if you’re working from home, but it comes in handy in an office environment where noise needs to be at a minimum. Kensington says this is done with technology combining Kailh Midnight Pro Silent Tactile switches with sound-dampening pads.

The MK7500F includes a gel wrist rest with a durable feel and an ergonomic design to support all-day use. The full-sized aluminum keyboard has a gray background with black keys. It can be positioned with the built-in dual position feet, which gives users adjustments of 5 and 7 degrees. The keyboard has fully customizable keys, including built-in meeting controls for video conferencing, mute/unmute, and answering and ending calls.

With Kensington Konnect software (free download), macros, profiles and other customizations can be made. This includes shortcuts for opening finder windows, files, applications or websites.

The high-quality laser-etched ABS keycaps have an adjustable white backlight, which adjusts for low light settings. After a full charge of the 4000mAh rechargeable battery, the wireless keyboard will yield about 90 hours of use with full backlight on or up to 450 hours with the backlight off. There is a battery level indicator on the front.

One of the best features is its IPX4 rating to protect the keyboard from accidental spills – think of the coffee and bottled water we all keep at our desks.

Up to five active devices can be connected: three via Bluetooth, one wired and one with a 2.4GHz RF wireless connection. A washable silicon dust cover, a 6-foot USB-C to USB-A cable, and a 2.4GHz wireless receiver are included. The operating systems supported are Windows 10+, macOS 11.6 and above.

Cyber Acoustics USB and Bluetooth Speaker Bar Pro Edition (CA-2890BT) solves the problem of improving bad sound from your computer and not spending a fortune on a Bluetooth speaker.

The multi-purpose speaker retails for $29.99 and has a small footprint: 3.5-by-10.6-by-3-inches and weighs 0.73-pounds. Inside the USB-powered bar are dual 1.5-inch stereo speakers, which produce quality sound.

The plug-and-play speaker is great for playing music from computer apps as I’m doing as I write, hands-free calls and Zoom meetings. It connects with Bluetooth 5.0 or USB to computers (Mac or PC), smartphones and tablets. Both the USB and Bluetooth can connect to separate devices simultaneously.

It has a space-saving and clever design with built-in clips to attach directly to most monitors, or it can be free-standing.

A USB-C to USB-A adapter and a user guide are included.
