A principal NPR and PBS Member serving the Commonwealth of Virginia has petitioned the FCC to add a channel to its Table of Allotments for a city between the college town of Charlottesville and Staunton, along the busy I-81 corridor to the south of the home of James Madison University.
VPM Media Corporation on January 9 submitted the petition for rulemaking that would establish noncommercial educational VHF Channel 12 in Waynesboro, Va.
This would create the community’s first local TV service, and give VPM coverage of an area between Harrisonburg and the home of the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.
The region of Virginia has its own television stations, given its distance from VPM’s hub in Richmond.
Handling the request as legal counsel is Ari Meltzer of Wiley.
With the FCC saying the request warrants consideration, a NPRM opening the public up for input is forthcoming.
