Young scientists learned about snow at the Nature at the Confluence

SOUTH BELOIT, Ill. (WIFR) – With all this snowfall, Saturday was the perfect time for local children to learn about the science of snow. This was part of the Little Scientists series at South Beloit’s Nature at the Confluence.

Children and their families learned about the freezing temperature of snow, winter animals, and even made snowflake crystal shapes using pretzels and marshmallows. The event planned for a short hike but because of the temperatures and the age of the attendees they just spent time in the snow if they wanted to.

“Each month we focus on a different nature/science topic. It’s aimed at little kids who are in preschool or kindergarten or who are home schooled. It’s an opportunity for them to socialize with each other while getting creative and learning hands on about science,” says Executive Director Julie Uram.
