L.A. Nursing Home Administrators Charged in 14 COVID-Related Deaths

The operators of a lavish nursing home for dementia patients were charged with felony elder abuse on Tuesday in connection with the deaths of a nurse and 13 patients who succumbed to COVID, allegedly because the prioritized facility profit over safety and admitted an infected patient. According to the Los Angeles Times, prosecutors claim that Silverado Beverly Place was meant to be closed to outside visitors and transfers from high-risk areas but failed not to test or isolate the newcomer. In March 2020, at least 45 personnel and 60 patients were sick during the outbreak.
