Men’s Tennis Blanks Campbell, 4-0 – University of North Carolina Athletics


CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—The University of North Carolina men’s tennis team kicked off its 2024 dual match season on Thursday with a doubleheader against a pair of in-state opponents.  The Tar Heels, ranked No. 13 in the nation in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, beat Campbell, 4-0, to begin the afternoon.
 
The Tar Heels took the doubles point to start the match against the Camels. Peter Murphy and freshman Patrick Schoen cruised to a win in their match at No. 3 doubles, 6-1 over Pol Otin and Noe Macquart. Carolina clinched the doubles point at No. 2, where Will Jansen and Karl Poling beat Lukas Steffen and Tomas Balazi, 6-4.
 
Newcomers filled two of six slots in the singles lineup for the Tar Heels, including graduate transfers Phillip Jordan (UC Santa Barbara) and Will Peters (Princeton). Both picked up wins in their first matches as Tar Heels.
 
Peters coasted to a win in his match at No. 5 singles to put UNC ahead, 2-0. He beat Otin 6-0, 6-1. Jansen made it 3-0 shortly thereafter with a victory in the No. 1 slot, 6-1, 6-2, over Damien Nezar. Jordan won the clincher, 6-1, 7-5, over Balazi.
