Teachers and students from Richards and Shepard high schools talk with many managers and professionals at Webb Chevrolet on Dec. 5. 

Despite their busy schedules, general manager Tim Gehr and several other supervisors from Webb Chevrolet in Oak Lawn found time in December to show automotive technology students from Richards and Shepard high schools the career possibilities waiting for them.

Teachers Keith Luszcak and Matt Krogh brought 29 students to tour Webb facilities, talk with various professionals, and meet trainer Christopher May from the renowned General Motors Automotive Service Education Program at Triton College.

The GM ASEP allows students to earn an associate’s degree and work.  Many then transfer to Southern Illinois University to earn a bachelor’s degree in automotive technology and then start careers at lucrative salaries.

“Students were able to see the ins and outs of the dealership giving them a behind the scenes experience. They talked to people from all aspects of the dealership and received true answers,” said Luszcak, who teaches at Richards.

On the way back to campus students talked about the experience. “Every student thanked me and told me it was a great field trip and I am sure students will come to class tomorrow making others feel like they missed out. Students mentioned they were interested in careers that they had not considered prior to the trip,” Luszcak said.​

Gehr, Fixed Operations Director Ernie Hack, Service Director Sean Drane, Business Development and Communications Coordinator Brittany Vargas and many other Webb employees “all made today about the kids. From what I heard all 29 of the students felt the warm welcome Webb Chevrolet gave them.”
