MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia University tennis team begins the 2024 spring schedule with matches against Duquesne and Morgan State at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown on Saturday, Jan. 20.

“We are excited to get the spring season underway on Saturday,” head coach Miha Lisac said. “The opening matches are a great opportunity for our program to start the spring season with good focus and intensity.”

West Virginia finished 11-12 overall and 1-8 in Big 12 Conference play during the 2022-23 season. The Mountaineers return eight players from last year’s roster.

Graduate transfer Love-Star Alexis joined the program after spending four years at Middle Tennessee State. Alexis collected 89 career wins, finishing 52-43 in singles and 37-42 in doubles play. She was also named to the 2023 All-Conference USA Singles Second Team.

Freshman Maya Bordereau also joins the program ahead of the spring 2024 season.

Graduate student Ting-Pei Chang, senior Momoko Nagato and junior Michaela Kucharova highlight the list of returners from last season’s roster. Chang was one of three players to finish with 30 or more wins last season as she went 35-31 overall.

Nagato had 37 wins in the 2022-23 campaign, finishing 37-31 overall. She also finished 22-14 in doubles play as she primarily played with Kucharova. Kucharova led the team with 38 wins, finishing 38-34 overall.

Junior Tatiana Lipatova also returns for WVU as she finished 12-21 overall last season. Redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik looks to build off a strong first year with the Mountaineers after transferring from Houston. Dodik went 14-24 overall in the 2022-23 season.

Morgantown native junior Catherine Wassick went 2-10 overall last season for West Virginia.

West Virginia will face Duquesne at 10 a.m. before facing Morgan State at 3 p.m.
