SEATTLE, Wash. – The Portland women’s tennis team opened the 2024 dual season with a 7-0 sweep against the Seattle U Redhawks Friday afternoon at Amy Yee Tennis Center.

The Pilots (1-0) started strong in doubles play with the Rimona Rouf and Aleksandra Dimitrijevic recording a 6-3 win at the No. 2 slot. Alaia Rubio Perez and Meagan Pearson also posted a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles, while the No. 1 tandem of Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge were leading 6-5 when the point was clinched.

Portland continued to dominate in singles with straight set wins at four of the six positions. Pearson cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6, Pethybridge won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 and Zelic was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at the top of the order.

Pilot freshman Nadine Arbaizar Martinez earned her first dual singles win with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Jade Quintana at No. 5. Rouf defeated Anastasia Nikolova 6-0, 1-6, 6-1 at No. 4 and Rubio Perez completed the sweep with a 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 super tiebreaker victory over Lamija Avdic at No. 3 singles.

The Pilots will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 27 with an 11 a.m. road match against the Portland State Vikings. The match will be held at Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation District.
