There will be no North American International Detroit Auto show in 2024 organizers confirmed Friday, as organizers move the show back to being held in January. 

The show will next be held January 2025, Rob Alberts, the executive director of the Detroit Auto Show and Detroit Auto Dealers Association said in a statement. 

“After discussions with numerous partners, we believe a January date absolutely makes the most sense,” Alberts said. “In a constantly changing global automotive landscape, this update reflects our efforts to continue to reimagine the Detroit Auto Show while keeping an eye on what matters most — getting people excited about cars.”

The show has taken place in September the previous two years. Past shows in January have previously drawn crowds of about 800,000 people — and while organizers have never revealed the attendance at the two September auto shows, said in 2022 they’d be happy with attendance of 500,000. 

Auto giant Stellantis said earlier this year that “challenging” market conditions had prompted the company to re-evaluate participation in future auto shows. 

The company will be present at the Canadian International AutoShow in February, at the expense of Toronto-area dealers, a company spokesperson said, but in early January had not commented on whether the company would participate in the Detroit auto show.
