Eagles calm Ragin’ Cajuns, 5-2


FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University men’s tennis defeated the Ragin’ Cajuns of Louisiana, 5-2 on Saturday, clinching the match at 4-1.

The dominance for the Eagles started in the doubles point. The Green and Blue took courts one and three in 48 and 34 minutes, respectively. John Zakowski and Ninad Raut made quick work on court three on the back of an early break, winning 6-4. Hugo Magnusson and Eric Oncins settled the matter on court one with a 7-6 victory.

On doubles court two Harry Michalowski and Mika Bunjes were close to winning, up 6-5 before the match was abandoned.

The singles point continued to show Eagles dominance. Magnusson took court two first in one hour and fifteen minutes, 6-4, 6-1. Bunjes finished just eight minutes later, defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-4.

The score was brought to 3-2 with two courts close to being the clinching court for the Eagles. Raut got the honor when he took court five 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Philipp Bosse put the cherry on top of an impressive showing for FGCU men’s tennis with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 victory on court one.

Up next for the Eagles, is the start of a Florida road stretch starting in Orlando against UCF on Jan 27.
