BATON ROUGE, La. – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Bogi Csordas earned a three-set singles victory to lead the Lion tennis team in its spring opener at LSU Saturday evening at the LSU Tennis Complex.
Csordas’ win on the No. 6 singles court helped Southeastern (0-1) avoid the shutout against the host Tigers (2-0). LSU swept through the remainder of singles and doubles play to earn the victory.
“This was a great opportunity to start the spring against a first-class LSU squad,” Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes said. “Overall, I was happy with what I saw today. We played with a wonderful attitude and great fight, so we can definitely build on that effort moving forward.”
After LSU clinched the match with three doubles victories and five straight-set singles wins, Csordas provided the highlight for the Lady Lions against LSU’s Emma Grant.
The Gyor, Hungary native gutted through a grueling 7-5, 2-6, 15-13 victory to pick up the Lions’ lone win of the day.
“We’re so happy for Bogi,” Hayes commented. “This was an excellent start for her after missing almost all of last season with an injury. She made the most of a great opportunity.”
SLU will continue its three-match road swing Florida A&M in a 1 p.m. match Friday in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
