Colonels Hit The Road For Doubleheader Against #18 Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team (2-1, 0-0 ASUN) hits the road for a doubleheader against #18 Georgia (0-0, 0-0 SEC) on Monday at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

THE COLONELS
The Colonels enter the match with a 2-1 record with two home wins against Xavier and UIC and a loss to #11 Kentucky.
           
EKU dominated in a 6-1 win against UIC on Jan. 18. Fernando Bulnes earned his first career Division I doubles win with Evzen Holis from the No. 2 court, 6-2. Paul-Antoine Brazet and Kristoffer Stahlbrand earned their second doubles win of the season against UIC from the No. 3 position, 6-3.
 
The reigning ASUN Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, Moritz Mayer earned the win in singles play against UIC from the No. 4 spot in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Bulnes won his singles match from the No. 3 court in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Holis got his first singles win as a Colonel from the No. 2 position in a three-set thriller, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. Brazet and J.Anurag Reddy dominated in their singles matches from the No. 5 and 6 courts, as they both earned a straight-set victory, 6-0, 6-1.
 
SCOUTING #18 GEORGIA
The Bulldogs compete in their first two matches of the season against EKU.
 
Georgia has four players ranked in the latest ITA Singles Rankings, which include Ryan Colby (No. 36), Thomas Paulsell (No. 41), Miguel Perez Pena (No. 43), and Cyrus Mahjoob (No. 112). Colby and Niels Ratiu are ranked No. 42 in the latest ITA Doubles Rankings.
 
The Bulldogs were 23-7 in 2023 and ended their season at the NCAA Championships against #3 Ohio State. They were also the SEC Runner-Up, as they lost to Kentucky in the conference championship.
 
This is the third and fourth meeting between the Colonels and the Bulldogs and the first since 1971. Georgia is 2-0 against EKU, winning 7-2 in 1966 and a 9-0 sweep in 1971.
