CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The No. 1 ranked North Carolina women’s tennis team (4-0), defeated the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs (0-1) 7-0 on Sunday at UNC’s Cone-Kenfield Indoor Center. Sunday was Carolina’s second of two matches against top-15 ranked SEC opponents this weekend.
To begin the day, at No. 2 doubles, the top-ranked duo of Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty gave Carolina the doubles point advantage after winning 6-4. Attention then shifted towards court two where the No. 23 tandem of Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig won 6-2 to clinch the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead into singles.
In singles play, all six Tar Heels won their first set over Bulldog competition.
The second UNC point came from Fiona Crawley when she won 6-2. Next, Reilly Tran won her second set 6-1 to give Carolina its third point. To clinch the match for North Carolina, No. 5 Reese Brantmeier won 7-5 to win the sought after fourth point and solidify the victory for the Tar Heels.
Despite already clinching the match, Abbey Forbes, Carson Tanguilig and Elizabeth Scotty each picked up victories as they finished out their matches.
