Live: Quarterfinals begin at Melbourne Park with Sabalenka, Gauff and Djokovic in action

It’s been a tough slog for both players, and it’s all gotten to Marta Kostyuk.

Her energy levels faded late in the piece, and after the second break it was all heading one way.

Coco Gauff broke again for 5-0, but she couldn’t serve it out, throwing in her eighth and ninth double faults on the way.

Kostyuk managed one more hold, but the American eventually sealed victory  7-6 (8/6), 6-7 (7/3), 6-2 in three hours eight minutes.

She will now face the winner of tonight’s quarterfinal between Aryna Sabalenka and Barbora Krejčíková for a place in the women’s singles final.

Whoever she faces, however, she will need to improve her serve and cut down on the number of errors if she wants to make the decider.
