UCF’s Cronje, OSU’s Peyre Named Big 12 Tennis Players of the Week

UCF’s Lleyton Cronje (men’s) and Oklahoma State’s Lucia Peyre (women’s) took home the third set of weekly Big 12 tennis awards and first of their careers after leading their programs to undefeated weeks.

Cronje opened his season with four individual wins where he dropped only one set and wasn’t taken to a tiebreak. The general studies major defeated UNCW’s Bekhzod Rasamatov 7-5, 7-5 and Coastal Carolina’s Ryuya Ata 6-2, 6-2 to begin the week on the No. 2 courts. Cronje then defeated North Florida’s Rodrigo Crespo 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 before clinching the Golden Knights’ last match of the week against Georgia Southern’s Dimitris Paliouras 6-4, 6-4. The fifth-year team captain also picked up two doubles wins against UNCW and Georgia Southern to help UCF to its best start to a season since 1999.

Peyre led the Cowgirls to two ranked wins against No. 4 Michigan and No. 14 Ohio State with two singles wins on the No. 3 court. The sophomore French major provided the third point in both ranked wins and didn’t drop a set against either opponent, defeating Michigan’s Jaedan Brown 6-2, 6-2 and Ohio State’s Sydni Ratliff 6-3, 6-3. The win over Ratliff helped Oklahoma State sweep the singles matches after Ohio State secured the opening doubles point in two matches. The win over No. 4 Michigan was Oklahoma State’s highest-ranked win since 2018.
