The original Ash Williams was not amused by the heckler at the premiere of Evil Dead Rise. During a panel discussion following the film’s South by Southwest premiere showing at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, one audience member yelled, “This movie sux!” Bruce Campbell, who acted in multiple franchise editions and executive-produced the new picture, said, “What are you doing here? Leave immediately.” According to Variety, SXSW staff approached the man after he fell asleep with his legs raised in the theater. The audience member reportedly flung an empty popcorn bucket into the air as he shouted. As the attendee exited his balcony perch, Campbell interjected to thunderous applause. According to reports, producer Robert Tapert said, “I don’t get it.” He waited till the end of the credits.
