NEW ORLEANS – Georgia State’s Baran Soyler and Old Dominion’s Sofia Johnson each won all of their matches to earn the first Sun Belt Conference Tennis Players of the Week honors of the season.
Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Baran Soyler, Georgia State

Panthers’ sophomore Baran Soyler won four matches at the No. 1 flight in one day to lead Georgia State to a pair of wins. In Georgia State’s 4-3 win over Elon, Soyler helped secure the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles and then earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No 1 singles. Later that day, he won again at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles in a 5-2 win over South Carolina State.
Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Sofia Johnson, Old Dominion

Monarchs’ junior Sofia Johnson had two wins in ODU’s season opening 4-3 loss at Florida State on Jan. 16. She and doubles partner Lidiia Rasskouskaia evened the doubles with a 6-3 win at No. 1 as the Monarchs eventually won the doubles point. In singles, Johnson rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the second set to take a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) win over Vic Allen.
