Carlos Alcaraz’s Failure in Answering Important Women’s Tennis Question Leaves WTA Peer Upset


The grand slams are events that always serve memorable moments. One of the most memorable moments of the ongoing Australian Open came after the fourth round. It saw Carlos Alcaraz mumbling as he struggled to remember the name of a WTA player. The way he acted when posed with the WTA question ended up becoming a hilarious moment for some but ended up annoying many.

After he won against Miomir Kecmanović in the fourth round, Alcaraz spoke to Jim Courier before packing his bags to prepare for the post-match presser. Courier asked Alcaraz if he watched tennis in his free time, and the Spaniard replied in the affirmative. He then talked about the ATP players he watched mostly. Courier, then asked him about his favorites in the WTA.

The Spaniard found himself pink-cheeked as he was unable to name his favorite player from women’s tennis. He said, “Well, yes! I watch WTA as well. I mean, when I can, obviously! I mean when I turn the TV on, if it’s WTA, ATP, whatever, I like to watch.”

One tennis fan found themselves unimpressed with his words and shared the video again, with the caption, “for a dollar, name a woman“. Their reaction brought many to the post, including Donna Vekic, who liked the post as well. 

While Carlos Alcaraz found his tongue slipping to name players on the spot, he has talked about a WTA legend he admires to this day.

Alcaraz adores Russian WTA legend

Maria Sharapova was one of the biggest competitors during her prime years. She retired with 5 grand slams and went on to inspire many after her time in the sport. Alcaraz was one of those players and found himself smitten by the Russian beauty when he met her for the first time in his career. The 20-year-old Spaniard met Sharapova during the Canadian Open.

“I watched a lot of her matches. She was probably one of the best players in the world. I was in shock. I didn’t expect her to be in Toronto.” He further said, “I wondered, is this Maria? It was great to meet her. Talking with her was really nice.” Alcaraz has diverse tastes when it comes to tennis and has stated he follows the WTA. We might learn about some of his favorite players to watch in the future.
