SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After going a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles during Cal Poly men’s tennis’ opening week of the season, junior Bastiaan Weststrate was named Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week.
Weststrate took home both singles matches over the weekend. Against New Mexico, Weststrate won 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot in the lineup. He followed up with another 6-4, 6-1 victory versus East Tennessee State at the No. 3 spot.
In doubles play, Weststrate and Cal Poly’s Colter Smith won both matches, 6-4, and 7-5, against New Mexico and East Tennessee State, respectively.
The Mustangs beat New Mexico 4-3 before falling to East Tennessee State 5-2. Cal Poly’s next match is the home opener on Feb. 3 against LMU at 10 a.m. at Mustang Tennis Complex.
