CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — After a three and a half month break, UNI tennis returns to the court to begin the spring portion of its 2023-24 season on Saturday afternoon with the Panthers hosting the Milwaukee Panthers in their first dual of the year.

Competition is slated to begin at 1 p.m. CT at the Black Hawk Tennis Center in Waterloo. UNI is 14-8 all-time against Milwaukee in dual meets, looking for its first win in the series since 2022.

In singles play, Darta Dalecka leads Northern Iowa after posting a 7-6 record in the fall, which included her first career appearance in the ITA Regional Championships in October. Andrijana Brkic notched a 4-1 single record in the fall, which featured a 3-0 start to the year at Minnesota’s Gopher Invite.

UNI looks to find a spark in double action after Brkic and her partner Kim Zizek led UNI with three wins as a duo in the fall. The pairing of Lorena Cardoso and Dalecka also won two doubles matches in the first three tournaments of the season, as did Lasya Mylavarapu and Issa Sullivan.

Milwaukee also opens the spring portion of its schedule this weekend as well, facing off against Drake on Friday night ahead of a matchup with Northern Iowa on Saturday. Nadiia Konieva and Laure Razet lead Milwaukee with five singles wins each, while Evelina Anastasi carries a 4-2 singles mark into the weekend. In doubles, Konieva and Giorgia Cavestro are a perfect 3-0 as a duo, while Knoeva is also 4-1 in doubles play alongside Razet.
