Following the home season opener postponement, the Texans are set to open their season Friday and Saturday with a pair of matches at Conference USA members UTEP and New Mexico State.
“We couldn’t be more excited to get our season underway,” said head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron. “These are two teams that we know very well and I’m expecting it to be two tough battles. The team has been practicing hard these last few weeks and we are ready to get out there and start competing. It’s going to be a very exciting year for us.”
The 2024 season will get underway when the Texans face off against the Miners on Friday at 11 a.m. CT. The Purple and White will look to continue their domination on the court following a conference championship run in the 2023 season.
Tarleton last played the Miners in dual match play on March 25, 2022, where the Texans had a commanding 6-1 win. Martha Makantasi and Elsa Boisson served as the No. 3 and No. 4 players in singles action, both coming away with victories.
After the matchup in El Paso, the Texans will have a quick turnaround as they will make the hour drive northwest to former WAC foe and now current Conference USA member New Mexico State for a match on Saturday. The Purple and White will go head-to-head with the Aggies starting at 3:30 p.m. CT.
The last time the Texans faced off against the Aggies, the Purple and White took the 4-1 win in the 2023 WAC Women’s Tennis Tournament. This would be their last matchup as conference foes.
The Texans boasted a 17-7 record and advanced to the WAC Tournament championship match in Arlington, Texas, last April. The Purple and White finished runners-up and will look to make their way back to the finals once again this season.
