Community: Associated Womens in the Arts hears from Baton Rouge plein air expert

Associated Women in the Arts’ first meeting of 2024 featured a presentation by David Gary, founder and coordinator of Baton Rouge Plein Air.

At the Bluebonnet Branch Library, Gary talked about “packing light” for plein air painting (painting outdoors) no matter what medium the artist chooses for painting. He also discussed the challenges of packing “only the essentials” to make the outdoor painting experience more enjoyable and less cumbersome.

Baton Rouge Plein Air is a group of local artists who meet weekly to paint outdoors in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. The mission of Associated Women in the Arts is to promote the development of women artists by creating opportunities for education, exhibition and fellowship. In addition, the group strives to bring awareness of the visual arts to the public throughout the state.
