ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Navy men’s tennis team returns to the Tose Family Tennis Center on Saturday for a pair of matches. The Mids (2-0) will play host to George Mason (0-2) at 10 a.m. and Mount St. Mary’s (2-0) at 1:30 p.m.

Schedule Update
Navy has rescheduled its matches at Penn that were slated to be held Jan. 19 but postponed due to the weather. The teams now will meet in Philadelphia on Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Navy Update
The 2024 season began for Navy Jan. 20 with it defeating St. Bonaventure by the score of 4-3 and winning a 5-2 decision over Saint Francis.
Navy rallied to win the match with the Bonnies after dropping the doubles point. The lone Mid to win a pair of matches during the contest was Steve Nguyen. He teamed with Jason Kim for a 7-6 victory at No. 2 doubles, then won a 6-4, 6-4 contest at No. 3 singles in what was the last and deciding match left on the courts.
Navy won all three matches against the Red Flash to take an early 1-0 lead. The No. 1 tandem of Herrick Legaspi and Nathan Nguyen won its match by the score of 6-2. Legaspi then posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles and Nguyen followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 4 flight.
Also winning two matches again st Saint Francis was J.J. Etterbeek at No. 2 doubles (6-3, alongside Aniketh Ayinala) and at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-3).
George Mason Preview
Like Navy, George Mason opened its season with a pair of matches last weekend. The Patriots lost a 4-2 decision to Georgetown and a 6-1 match to Liberty.
Navy leads the all-time series with George Mason by a total of 20-1. The Mids have defeated the Patriots in each of the last eight matches, but four of those matches were decided by the score of 4-3.
That was the result of the 2023 match between the teams played in Fairfax, Va. The Mids won the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, then took a 2-0 lead. The Patriots tied the score at 2-2 before Navy won matches at Nos. 4 and 2 singles to secure the victory.
Three of the singles matches played between the teams were extended into three sets.
George Mason’s Zavah Fahim is back after winning his No. 6 singles match against the Mids a year ago. Navy returns singles winners Ayinala (No. 2) and Matthew McNair (No. 5).
Mount St. Mary’s Preview
The Mount will be opening its spring slate this weekend. Mount St. Mary’s recorded wins over Morgan State by scores of 5-2 and 6-1 during the fall.
Navy has won all 21 prior matches in the series with Mount St. Mary’s. The Mids posted a 4-0 win over the Mount last season in Annapolis.
