Andrew Lloyd Webber May Skip Broadway Premiere Due to His ‘Critically Ill’ Son

Andrew Lloyd Webber has stated that he will likely miss the opening night of his new Broadway musical, Bad Cinderella since his eldest son is “critically ill” with gastric cancer and “at the moment, my place is with him and the family.” Bad Cinderella, a retelling of the famous fairy tale with music by Lloyd Webber, lyrics by David Zippel, and a book by Emerald Fennell, premiered in London (named Cinderella) in 2021 to favorable reviews. Lloyd Webber, 74 years old, is now composing a choir anthem for the May coronation of King Charles. Lloyd Webber, the composer of Cats and The Phantom of the Opera, said Saturday night via his spokeswoman that he is extremely devastated to report that his oldest son Nick is in serious condition. Nick has been fighting gastric cancer for the past 18 months and is currently hospitalized now. As a result, he has not been able to attend the previous previews of Bad Cinderella, nor will he be able to attend Thursday’s opening night performance to cheer on the production’s stellar cast, crew, and orchestra. “We all hope that Nick will turn his life around. He is courageously fighting with his indomitable wit, but my place is with him and the family at this time.”
