Former UGA men’s tennis player Jan Zielinski wins Australian Open mixed doubles title

Zielinski, of Poland, and his partner Su-Wei Hsieh, of Taiwan, took home the trophy for mixed doubles after defeating Desirae Krawczyk, of the U.S., and Neal Skupski, of Great Britain, in the final. The duo triumphed with a score of 6-7(5), 6-4, 11-9.

Zielinski joins Murphy Jensen and Travis Parrott as the third Bulldog to win a Grand Slam in the program’s history. Jensen and Parrot won the 1993 French Open doubles title and the U.S. Open doubles title in 2009, respectively, a release from UGA stated.

“Very proud of Jan on his first Grand Slam Championship,” head coach Manuel Diaz said. “He is establishing himself as one of the very best doubles players in the world, also making the final of the men’s draw in Australia. He’s worked very hard and is a great guy to boot.”

Zielinski’s win also marks the first time a Polish native has won the Australian Open mixed doubles title. H’s now won five ATP Tour titles, winning the Moselle Open for three consecutive years and The Internazionali BNL d’Italia in 2023, the university said.

Take a moment to congratulate the former Bulldog!
