GREENVILLE, SC — Junior Jack Batchelor and freshman Louie Fletcher secured singles wins, but Furman defeated the visiting Bellarmine University men’s tennis team 5-2 on Friday in the Mickel Tennis Center.
Both Batchelor, at No. 1, and Fletcher, at No. 5, were victorious in tiebreakers for Bellarmine (1-2). Batchelor defeated Elijah Poritzky 6-0, 6-7 (0-7), 7-5 (10-6) while Fletcher topped John Rado (FUR) 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.
It was Fletcher’s first collegiate singles win while Batchelor is tied for the team high with eight singles victories this season.
Furman (2-3) swept the doubles contests and claimed four singles wins.
Bellarmine will play two matches Sunday at Virginia Tech, first against the Hokies at 4 p.m. (ET) and then against Charlotte at 8 p.m.
